There's a new system to calculate stamp duty

Assuming the property is residential you’ll pay:

  • nothing on the first £125,000 of the property price
  • 2% on the next £125,000 (£125,000 - £250,000)
  • 5% on the next £675,000 (£250,000 - £925,000)
  • 10% on the next £575,000 (£925,000 - £1.5 million)
  • 12% on the rest (above £1.5 million)

Example

If you buy a property for £275,000, you’ll pay £3,750 of Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). This is made up of:

  • nothing on the first £125,000
  • £2,500 on the next £125,000
  • £1,250 on the remaining £25,000
