We never do things by halves, whether it’s selling a house, managing a property or helping our community.

So, when the chance came up to support an incredible charity in Africa that has a local connection to St Neots, we couldn’t wait to get involved.

In November, Matt Giggs, Ollie Henson, Danny Love Fulton, Amber Keats, Jack Pirie, Caroline Deeprose, Lewis James and Hannah Crofts from Giggs and Co and Noonan Giggs will travel more than 8,000 miles to Lesotho to spend ten days volunteering with Kick4Life.

Co-founded by St Neot’s local Steve Fleming, the charity is billed as “the world’s first football club dedicated to social change.”

“The tour is an amazing experience,” says Steve, who has been leading trips for the past 12 years.

“It’s a charity challenge with a difference, because volunteers are actually trained to deliver health education and life skills activities in local schools.

“They’re teaching messages about HIV prevention and breaking down gender inequality,” says Steve.

“We’re thrilled to have Giggs and Co involved,” he adds. “I’ve always been impressed by their philosophy and energy.”

And we’ve got some pretty impressive royal footsteps to follow in. In 2008, Prince Harry visited Kick4Life’s projects and undertook the same health education training.

Among Kick4Life’s award-winning work are temporary HIV testing and education centres which are set up at football matches to engage with visiting fans. It’s all part of the charity’s mission to use the power of sport to inspire social change.

“Steve’s work is something we really believe in,” says Giggs and Co director Matt Giggs.

“To be able to contribute in a country that really needs people to help create awareness around HIV testing is such an incredible opportunity.

“It gives you quite a different perspective on life and I’m expecting the trip is going to be a humbling experience.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s someone a mile down the road, or a thousand miles away – if you can do something to help others and make a difference that’s so important.”

We’ll be running a series of fundraising events between now and November, starting with a quiz night at St Neots Football Club on June 8, so watch this space for more details.
